Sermon by Pastor Abel Nyamekye
[IFriday Service April 4, 2025]
📖 Scripture Focus:
- Psalm 119:11
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” - Ephesians 5:25-27
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” - Hebrews 10
🔥 Main Theme:
We live in a world full of noise, opinions, and narratives—but there is one voice that cleanses, renews, and transforms us: the Word of God. This message is about what it means to be Washed by the Word and how the Word transforms us daily.
1️⃣ The Word Is the Divine Cleanser
Christ sanctifies and cleanses the church by the washing of water by the Word. This is more than a metaphor—it’s a spiritual reality.
The Word:
- Sanctifies – Sets us apart
- Cleanses – Removes impurities
- Prepares – Makes us ready for Christ
John 15:3 reminds us: “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” The Word purifies our hearts and transforms our desires.
2️⃣ The Problem – Spiritual Pollution
We get spiritually “dirty” every day:
- Through the media we consume
- The negative words spoken over us
- The doubts we entertain
- The compromises we justify
Like David in Psalm 51:2, we must cry out: “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
3️⃣ The Process – Daily Submission to the Word
Being “washed” isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a daily act.
How to Be Washed Daily:
- 📖 Hear the Word – Romans 10:17
- 📖 Read the Word – Psalm 1:2
- 📖 Obey the Word – James 1:22
- 📖 Speak the Word – Romans 10:10
Just like we bathe daily, our soul needs the daily rinse of the Word.
4️⃣ The Purpose – A Glorious Church
God’s goal is a church that is:
- Glorious
- Holy
- Without blemish
You were made to shine with glory, not struggle with guilt. The Word is the key to this transformation.
🧼 Conclusion:
If your soul feels heavy, your thoughts cluttered, or your spirit dry—it’s time for a wash. Let the Word do its work:
- You are Loved
- You are Chosen
- You are Set Apart
- You are Forgiven
- You are Empowered
Let God’s Word wash your mind, soften your heart, and realign your spirit.
🙌 Call to Action:
This week, commit to 10 minutes a day in the Word.
Let God speak. Let Him cleanse. Let Him restore.
You’re not just reading—you’re being renewed.
🙏 Prayer:
“Father, thank You for Your Word that washes, renews, and sanctifies. We confess our need for daily cleansing. Forgive us for leaning on other sources to define us. Today, we commit to come under the flow of Your Word. Wash us anew — that we might be holy, radiant, and ready for Your return. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
🧠 A Thinking Man’s Filter (Bonus Reflection)
“Now, if there is a theological filter for the theological thinker, and there is a church filter for the church thinker, a cigarette filter for the cigarette thinker—there’s got to be a real filter somewhere for the real thinker. And God has a Filter, and that’s His Word…”
— Rev. William Marrion Branham, “A Thinking Man’s Filter” (1965)
